One week. I've only been here one week and I'm already feeling a little dansk š¤

"Strive to make everyday the best day of your life, because there is no good reason not to."

There's a cute zoo within walking distance from my dorm, so we did a GLOBE gals trip there! From pandas to tigers, sloths to tapirs, we were blown away with how many diverse animals they had! Of course we had a photo shoot in the petting zoo section: BABY GOATSšš (!!) We've decided my spirit animal is a kid (baby goat) haha.
We also did a little girls trip to the Danish Architecture Center (DAC). In addition to a giant indoor slide, tidbits about Danish culture, and insightful examples of how Danes innovate, we also were able to enjoy a presentation about some unique architecture projects from around the world.
During the presentation, they offered ~refreshments~ which included champagne. I don't even drink that often, but woooo I was so happy for that! Felt ~~sophisticated~~

We did some sight-seeing around the area and got to view Copenhagen from new heights.

MY WINDOW SEAT IS AMAZING! Y'all, LOOK at the aesthetic--could you ask for anything more ZoĆ«?? Major Zozone vibesš¤I've been loving how many cozy dinners we've shared with our GLOBE friends!! Cooking has been so easy here since we have our own kitchens, plus eating out is expen$ive!!

Ooo this is random, but shoutout to our Danish friend Thomas--he told us about this app (Too Good to Go) where you can buy groceries/baked goods/etc at the end of the day for like $5 usd. Such a great sustainable option to limit food waste! I've researched stuff like this for my past entrepreneurship classes, and it seems like the US is a lot further behind in this regard. (since I'm from Winston Salem, throwback to when Krispy Kreme started to lock their dumpsters because people would go dumpster diving for all the thrown-away donuts...)
~anyways~
Ashely and I biked to try out the app--we went to a bakery and O M G we didn't know we would get SO much bread!! The first picture on my post is the whole bag (plenty to share teehee)

So I mentioned earlier that today marks one week--I had to take care of some #adult things (laundry, groceries, meal prepping), but I also checked off my marathon training for the day by getting caught in the rain during my six miles around the five lakes. Instead of waiting around to see what everyone was up to, I decided to have a little solo adventure and biked to NĆørreport for a sustainable food & drink festival. THE VIBES! So hygge! I was immediately welcomed by local vendors who offered me endless goat cheese samples, oat milk coffee (I don't even drink coffee but this was delicious!), a pick-your-own flower bouquet, and more.

I was so proud I made it to the right spot by biking without directions/my phone aaaand in the rain! Everyone is open and sweet here, even though I don't speak Danish. Making easy conversation with the locals, I learned more about their sustainable efforts and the farm life in Jutland.

I even was able to try free gin samples š THE !! KOMBUCHA !! THO.
Absolutely amazing--one was made with fig leaves š and one was sooo yummy and made with fresh herbs from Greece!

Okay so what else have I been up to.?
The Danes go hard at parties. And when I say "go hard," that basically means there's a party every. single. night. And their definition of a GOOD night out is when you don't leave until 5 am. Yeah so like...I'm not built for that every nightššš I did however have a few really fun nights out with friends. (oh yeah btw classes don't start til next week so don't worry I'll get my sleep teehee). The first was at a bar called La Boucherie, which I went to completely jet-lagged on the day I arrived in Denmark. Especially an event for exchange students, I met a ton of cool people who I hang out with now like old pals. Pretty much everyone from UNC went to Sweden a few nights ago (just for the night) to go to bars because it's only an hour away, but I wasn't feeling too great (need to adjust to the lack of sleep and colder weather + rain). **Siiiide note: we're going to Sweden tomorrow to actually explore (as opposed to just "exploring" their alcohol š** I went to The Jane bar the other night and had a blast, it was a club/bar so I danced a lot. Last night we went to a beach party with the Danes and UNC people from GLOBE--keep in mind that their version of "beach party" means a nice club next to the water. No sand or bikinis or you'd look very out of place :)
Aaaaand just for fun, to end off this blog post, here's a picture of Emily biking/pacing me while I ran (*struggled*) beside her for marathon training šššš¼āāļøš¤š (okay I wasn't sure if we were trendsetters or trend followers, but I saw two guys doing this flawlessly later that day and I was so inspired to try it again when the streets aren't as busy).
